Contrary to popular belief, nectarines
are NOT a cross between plums and peaches, they are in fact a type of
peach. Occasionally, a peach tree mutates - the gene responsible for the fuzz
is turned off, and out comes a smooth skinned nectarine.
Nectarines likely originated in China
over 2,000 years ago. They were grown in ancient Persia, Greece, and Rome.
