· Nectarines are sometimes called "shaved peaches" because their skin is smooth
· Contrary to popular belief, nectarines are NOT a cross between plums and peaches, they are in fact a type of peach. Occasionally, a peach tree mutates - the gene responsible for the fuzz is turned off, and out comes a smooth skinned nectarine.
· Nectarines likely originated in China over 2,000 years ago. They were grown in ancient Persia, Greece, and Rome.
